When your dog’s gut isn’t happy, chances are the rest of their body isn’t either. At Nextrition, we believe gut health is the foundation of overall well-being—which is exactly why we created a cold-pressed dog food designed to support a healthy digestive system from the inside out.

You want your dog to live a long, active, and happy life. That starts with what’s in their bowl.

The Gut Does More Than You Think

When we talk about the gut, we’re referring to more than just the stomach. It includes your dog’s digestive tract and microbiome—the community of bacteria that helps break down food and absorb nutrients. When everything’s in balance, your dog can get the most out of every bite. When it’s not, things can go downhill fast.

Good gut health supports everything from nutrient absorption to immune function. On the flip side, poor gut health can mean your dog isn’t properly processing the nutrients in their food—even if that food looks great on the label.

What Happens When the Gut Is Out of Balance

A disrupted gut doesn’t just affect digestion. It can lead to a wide range of symptoms that impact your dog’s daily life, including:

  • Digestive Upset: Frequent diarrhea, constipation, gas, or bloating aren’t normal—they’re signs something’s off.
  • Skin & Coat Issues: A struggling gut can trigger inflammation that shows up as itchy skin, dull fur, or rashes.
  • Low Energy: If your dog isn’t absorbing nutrients properly, their energy levels can drop—and so can their interest in eating, playing, or interacting.
  • Oral Health Concerns: Since much of a dog’s immune system lives in the gut, a weakened gut can make it harder to fight off gum disease and oral infections.

In some cases, chronic gut issues can even lead to long-term health conditions, like food sensitivities or metabolic disorders. That’s why we take gut health seriously.

How Nextrition Supports a Healthier Gut

Our cold-pressed dog food is carefully crafted to be easy to digest and packed with the nutrients your dog needs. We start with natural, whole-food ingredients—real meat, fruits, veggies, and grains—and gently cook them at low temperatures to preserve their nutritional value.

No fillers. No harsh processing. Just food your dog’s gut can actually use.

We’ve seen the difference gut-friendly nutrition can make, and we want that for your dog too. If they’re dealing with digestive issues, skin problems, or a lack of energy, switching to a gut-healthy food like Nextrition could be a game changer.

Because a healthier gut isn’t just better for digestion—it’s better for everything.

We’ve all heard the phrase “dog breath” used as an insult—but let’s be real, some dogs do have pretty funky breath. That doesn’t mean it’s just something you have to live with. In fact, bad breath isn’t a given. It’s usually a sign that something’s up—and the good news is, most causes can be addressed with a little effort.

Dental Issues Are a Big One

The most common cause of stinky dog breath? Dental disease. Things like plaque, tartar, and gum infections can lead to a buildup of bacteria—and that’s where the smell comes from. Left untreated, those dental issues can turn into more serious problems, like infections or tooth loss. So, yeah… it’s more than just a stinky inconvenience.

Other Common Causes of Dog Breath

Besides dental disease, there are a few other culprits worth knowing about:

  • Diet: Dogs that eat a fish-heavy diet (or like to scavenge in the yard) tend to have smellier breath.
  • Stuck Food or Objects: Something lodged between your dog’s teeth can start to smell pretty fast—especially if it’s organic material.
  • Infections or Growths: Oral infections or tumors can cause foul-smelling breath, particularly if there are open sores involved.
  • Diabetes: A sweet, fruity smell could be a sign of diabetes and a reason to call your vet.
  • Kidney Trouble: Breath that smells like ammonia? That could signal kidney disease—definitely something to have checked out.

Whatever the cause, it’s worth investigating rather than just dealing with it.

How Nextrition Can Help

You’ve heard the saying “you are what you eat”—and that goes for dogs too. A healthier diet means a healthier body, and that includes fresher breath.

Cold-pressed dog food like Nextrition is loaded with nutrients thanks to our low-temp cooking method. That means more of the good stuff stays in—no fillers, no harsh processing. A better diet helps support your dog’s immune system and digestive health, both of which play a role in reducing bad breath.

While our cold-pressed food isn’t designed to scrape teeth like kibble, it’s gentle on the stomach and full of clean, quality ingredients. You can also toss your dog a Tummy Treat now and then—great for chewing, great for their gut, and helpful for loosening up plaque and tartar.

Fresh Breath Starts With a Plan

If your dog’s breath is knocking you over, don’t ignore it. Sometimes all it takes is a dietary switch to clean things up. Other times, it could be a sign of something more serious. When in doubt, check with your vet.

And if you're ready to try a food that supports whole-body health (including oral health), take a look at Nextrition cold-pressed dog food. Your dog—and your nose—will thank you.

If you’ve always fed your dog kibble, you’re not alone. For a lot of people, it’s the default—what they’ve always done, what’s always been on the shelf. But more and more dog owners are starting to ask: is there a better way?

We think there is. And once you understand how kibble is made—and what it might be missing—it’s easy to see why switching to a non-kibble dog food makes sense.

Kibble Isn’t What It Used to Be

Let’s start with what kibble actually is. Most kibble is cooked at extremely high temperatures, which strips away much of the natural nutrition and flavor from the ingredients. To make up for what’s lost, manufacturers add in artificial flavors, synthetic nutrients, and preservatives. What starts out as real meat and veggies ends up as something... less.

Think of it like ultra-processed food for humans. It might be convenient, but that doesn’t mean it’s ideal.

Why Cold-Pressed Dog Food Is Different

Cold-pressed dog food is a non-kibble option that’s gaining popularity—and for good reason. It’s made using low heat and pressure, which helps keep the natural nutrition intact. No puffed-up pellets. No unnecessary extras.

Here’s what makes cold-pressed food a smart upgrade:

  • No Fillers or Artificial Junk
We skip the synthetic additives and stick to ingredients your dog’s body can actually use. Real meat, whole grains, fruits, and veggies. That’s it.
  • More Nutrition in Every Bite
Because we don’t cook the nutrients out, you get more value in every serving. Your dog gets what they need without needing as much food to get it.
  • Helps Maintain a Healthy Weight
More nutrition per bite means you can feed a little less—great for dogs that tend to overeat or need help keeping weight in check.
  • Gentler on Sensitive Stomachs
Cold-pressed food breaks down easily and doesn’t swell in the stomach like kibble does. That means less bloating, less gas, and better digestion overall.

Kibble Might Be the Norm—But It’s Not the Only Option

If your dog has ever dealt with sensitive digestion, itchy skin, or just doesn’t seem that excited about mealtime, switching to a cold-pressed dog food might be worth a try. You don’t have to stick with what’s always been done. There are better ways to feed your dog—and we’re here to help you do just that.

Check out Nextrition’s cold-pressed recipes and see the difference a non-kibble food can make.

Why It’s Different

Nextrition isn’t your typical kibble. We use a cold-pressed process, which means low-temperature cooking that keeps more of the natural nutrients intact. No fillers, no artificial preservatives—just a blend of real meat, veggies, grains, and other good stuff.

Cold pressing also means the food is easier to digest and won’t puff up in your dog’s stomach like traditional kibble can. That’s a big win if your dog has a sensitive belly.

If you're giving your dog treats anyway, why not make sure they’re actually good for them? That’s the idea behind our new Tummy Treats—gut-friendly snacks designed to support your dog’s digestion, without sacrificing flavor.

Available in chicken and beef, these treats are made with real, natural ingredients like pumpkin, rice, and honey. They’re easy on sensitive stomachs and packed with flavor dogs love.

Thoughtfully Made for Sensitive Stomachs

We created Tummy Treats with the same approach we take to our cold-pressed dog food—clean ingredients, simple preparation, and no unnecessary extras. Because for dogs with sensitive stomachs, overly processed snacks or artificial additives can cause gas, bloating, or worse.

Every ingredient in Tummy Treats was chosen with intention. They’re not just tasty—they’re formulated to be gentle and easy to digest.

When to Use Tummy Treats

Most dog owners don’t need a reason to give a treat. But since treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s daily calories, it helps to be a little intentional. Here are a few great ways to work Tummy Treats into your routine:

  • Training Sessions
Whether you’re working on new skills or reinforcing good behavior, treats are one of the most effective training tools. Tummy Treats are a smart option for daily training—they’re light, digestible, and dogs stay excited for the next one.
  • Bonding Moments
Sometimes you’re not training—you’re just showing your dog a little extra love. A treat or two during cuddle time or after a walk can help reinforce that bond.
  • Filling the Gap
Some dogs, especially active or large breeds, benefit from a small snack between meals. In those cases, using a gut-healthy treat makes more sense than reaching for just any off-the-shelf option.
  • Mental Enrichment
Puzzle feeders, snuffle mats, and treat-dispensing toys are a great way to stimulate your dog’s mind. Use something they love that also supports their digestion—it’s a win-win.

Good Treats Should Feel Good Too

Not all treats are created equal. Some are loaded with fillers and preservatives that may upset your dog’s stomach. With Tummy Treats, you don’t have to guess. They’re simple, natural, and made for digestive health—so you can feel good about every bite.
Ready to try some? Tummy Treats are available in two flavors, and they ship right to your door.

Most dog owners know the feeling: you’re eating a snack, and your pup is watching with those big, hopeful eyes. And let’s face it—many dogs love people food. But just because they love it doesn’t mean it’s the best choice over a specialized sensitive tummy dog treat.

So, is people food okay for dogs? The short answer: sometimes, but it depends—and there are much better options.

Not Always Harmful, But Still Risky

Human food isn’t automatically bad for dogs, but it does come with risks. If you’re not familiar with what’s safe and what’s not, even a small amount of the wrong thing could cause a problem. A few of the bigger risks include:

  • Toxic foods – Chocolate, grapes, raisins, garlic, onions… these are all common ingredients that are dangerous for dogs, even in small amounts.
  • Too much salt, sugar, or fat – Most human meals are made with ingredients dogs don’t need—and shouldn’t have regularly.
  • Empty calories – Many people foods are calorie-dense without offering the nutrients dogs need, which can lead to unhealthy weight gain.

Yes, some people do manage to offer healthy, dog-safe human food as treats—but it takes research, portion control, and consistency. For most dog owners, it’s just not worth the risk.

A Better Option: Treats Made for Dogs

Here’s one of the best ways to avoid the issue altogether: don’t start giving your dog people food in the first place. If they never get a taste, they won’t know what they’re missing. And honestly, they won’t miss it.

That’s where dog-specific treats come in—like our Nextrition Tummy Treats.

Tummy Treats are made with natural, gut-friendly ingredients, just like our cold-pressed dog food. They’re designed to be tasty, gentle on the stomach, and easy to digest. Use them for:

  • Training rewards
  • Daily treats
  • Building trust or comfort in new situations

Your dog gets a reward they’ll love—and you get peace of mind knowing it’s doing them good.

Dogs Aren’t People (and That’s Okay)

We get it: it’s tempting to share. But dogs have very different nutritional needs. They aren’t built to handle the same foods we eat, and they definitely don’t benefit from things like processed snacks, desserts, or seasoned table scraps.

At the end of the day, what dogs really need is food that supports their health—not just something that tastes good to us. So if your pup is always on the lookout for a bite of your sandwich, try giving them a Tummy Treat instead. It’s just as rewarding for them—and a whole lot better for their body.

Kibble is still the go-to option for many dog owners—it’s convenient, widely available, and often affordable. But it's far from the only choice. If you're looking to move away from traditional dry kibble, there are several alternatives worth considering.

Some options offer more nutrition. Others offer more convenience. A few can give you both.

1. Cold-Pressed Dog Food

Let’s start with the option that strikes the best balance of nutrition, convenience, and simplicity: cold-pressed dog food. Unlike traditional kibble, cold-pressed food is made with natural ingredients that are gently cooked at low temperatures to help retain nutrients and flavor. It’s then pressed into bite-sized pieces without using high-heat extrusion.

Think of it as a better version of kibble—no fillers, no artificial stuff, and much easier to digest. It’s a smart pick for pet parents who want to avoid the downsides of dry food without overhauling their entire routine.

Nextrition cold-pressed dog food is a good example. We use real meat like chicken, lamb, beef, or salmon, paired with healthy grains, fruits, and vegetables. It’s nutritionally dense, easy on the stomach, and ready to scoop and serve.

2. Homemade Dog Food

Making your dog’s food from scratch gives you full control over ingredients, but it also comes with a learning curve. A good homemade recipe typically includes lean meats or poultry, whole grains, vegetables, and healthy fats like fish oil or flaxseed.

That said, this approach takes time—and it's important to make sure you're meeting your dog’s full nutritional needs. If you’re going this route, consult your vet or a pet nutritionist for guidance.

3. Dehydrated or Freeze-Dried Food

These types of food are minimally processed and retain much of their original nutritional value. They’re lightweight, shelf-stable, and typically rehydrated with water before serving.

The plus: no preservatives, less processing, and better nutrition than kibble. The downside? You’ll need to do a bit of math at mealtime to get portions right, and rehydrating takes a few extra minutes.

4. Raw Diets

A raw food diet mimics what a dog might eat in the wild—raw meat, organs, bones, and the occasional fruit or vegetable. Advocates say it’s the most natural way to feed a dog, and when done properly, it can work well.

But raw feeding comes with risks. You’ll need to source high-quality, fresh ingredients, prep every meal, and take food safety seriously to avoid contamination or nutritional imbalances. It’s a high-effort, high-reward option that isn’t right for everyone.

The Bottom Line

You’ve got options when it comes to non-kibble dog food. What matters most is choosing a food that works for your dog’s health—and your lifestyle. If you’re looking for a simple switch that offers better nutrition without extra hassle, cold-pressed food like Nextrition might be the right fit.

Want to see how it compares? You can always start with a trial pack and let your dog decide.

When food allergies come up, most people think of humans—especially kids—not dogs. So when we talk about creating chicken-free dog food for dogs with chicken sensitivities, it’s no surprise we get a few raised eyebrows.

But yes, chicken allergies in dogs are real. While they’re not as common as environmental allergies (like pollen or dust), they do happen—and they can cause some serious discomfort for your pup.

What Exactly Is a Chicken Allergy?

Allergies, whether in dogs or people, are immune system overreactions. A dog with a chicken allergy has an immune system that mistakenly treats chicken protein like a dangerous invader. When your dog eats chicken, the body reacts—and that’s when the symptoms show up.

Food allergies in dogs are less common than you might think, but when they do occur, chicken is often one of the culprits. That’s why we created several chicken-free recipes using beef, lamb, and salmon—to give dog owners better options when chicken just isn’t on the menu.

Signs Your Dog Might Have a Chicken Allergy

Chicken allergies can show up in a few different ways. Some dogs experience digestive issues, others show skin problems, and some struggle with both.

Keep an eye out for symptoms like:

  • Itchy, irritated skin
  • Rashes or hives
  • Excessive licking or scratching
  • Chronic ear infections
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Excessive gas or bloating
  • Fur thinning or hair loss

The symptoms can be mild or more severe, and not every dog will show the same signs. But if you're consistently seeing any of the above after meals, it’s worth a closer look.

Chicken Allergy or Something Else?

It’s easy to assume that food is the problem when your dog has digestive issues. But a sensitive stomach or food intolerance can mimic allergy symptoms—especially when it comes to gas, diarrhea, or occasional vomiting.

That’s why it’s important not to jump to conclusions. Instead of self-diagnosing, talk to your vet. They might recommend an elimination diet or a temporary switch to a simplified formula to see if symptoms improve. If chicken is the issue, your vet will help confirm it.

The Good News? You’ve Got Options

If it turns out that your dog does have a chicken allergy—or you just want to play it safe—we’ve got you covered. Nextrition offers chicken-free recipes made with gently cold-pressed beef, lamb, or salmon. And because we don’t use artificial fillers, preservatives, or byproducts, our food is also a great option for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

So whether your dog is officially allergic to chicken or just does better without it, you don’t have to compromise on nutrition or taste. With Nextrition, you get real food, fewer ingredients, and easier digestion—all delivered right to your door.

Cold-pressed dog food is a new type of dog food and while most pups thrive on Nextrition right away some dogs need a little more assistance to transition. Every dog is different and some experience different challenges when starting to feed this food. This guide provides some insider tips and tricks on how to overcome the more common challenges.

1. My dog isn’t eating Nextrition, how can I make cold-pressed food more appealing for my pup?

The first thing we recommend is to add some warm water to the food and let it sit for a bit. This will start to break down the food and will soften the pieces, more importantly it will help release extra flavor and the food will be coated in its own gravy. Dogs that are ho-hum about Nextrition will usually go bonkers when a little warm water is added.

Don’t forget about the powder that will be in the bottom of most bags. This stuff is golden! You can mix it with some warm water and you have created a super tasty meal topper!

2. Any more tips to help my picky eater?

Here are some common tips from pet experts to help reinforce positive eating habits and become a little less picky. Many of these tricks will need to be reinforced over multiple days for it to start working effectively. We know you can do it!

Time-limit meals. Leave food down for 30 minutes only—this teaches your dog that mealtime isn’t available all day and should eat during designated meal times.

Reduce treats & scraps. Too many high-value extras train dogs to wait for those extra tasty treats and handouts instead of eating their regular food. Some dogs will have greater will power than others to hold out eating their normal food hoping they will get more scraps.

Warm-water trick. As noted above, adding warm water to cold-pressed food helps release more flavor and aroma—and coat the kibble in its own tasty gravy. The amount of water you add will create more/less gravy on the food. If you add enough water the full pieces of food will completely break down, creating a mash that you can place in a lick mat with any other healthy foods they love to encourage them to eat.

3. When will I see positive health changes?

Nutrition improvements take time—just like going to the gym, you won’t see dramatic results overnight. Once fully transitioned to Nextrition, you can expect to notice benefits within a few weeks such as skin & coat, digestion and energy levels.

4. Why does my dog have loose stools when first switching?

Because cold-pressed food is easier to digest than traditional kibble, your dog’s system needs time to adapt. When the digestive system overworks with food that is easier to digest it can sometimes cause loose stool. This is a similar issue when switching from kibble to a raw or fresh diet as those foods are typically easier to digest than kibble. To help with the transition process and to build a healthy and diverse gut microbiome, all of our recipes contain pre-, pro- and post-biotics. If you are already giving these types of supplements and then you introduce Nextrition it could cause a “too much of a good thing” issue, resulting in some loose stools. To help prevent this, either introduce Nextrition even more slowly or dial back on the extras until your pup is fully transitioned.

If you see loose stools while transitioning, we suggest feeding a portion of their current food and Nextrition a couple of hours apart from each other. If Nextrition is fed with a food that is harder to digest, the gut will overwork to move Nextrition through the digestive system, causing loose stools. By feeding at separate times, this should allow your pup’s stomach to slow down and work only as hard as needed.

If you see loose stools when fully transitioned to Nextrition, the issue could be portion control. If you feed too much at a time, the gut is going to work a little faster on moving the food through the digestive tract and not giving it enough time to absorb all the nutrients. We would suggest getting a free personalized feeding plan that you can take by clicking here to ensure proper portion control, or feed them 3 smaller meals a day vs. 2 larger ones.

5. Are these recipes safe for puppies, adults and seniors?

Yes! Every formula is designed for all life stages, puppies, adults and seniors. Having worked for other pet food companies, we know the main reason why some brands will strip out puppy-level nutrients to create adult-only recipes - unfortunately, is to save money. They charge the same and put in fewer nutrients, making adult recipes usually more profitable. We believe that dogs deserve optimal nutrition and puppy-level nutrients are wonderful to feed at any age!

Hopefully you found some information here to help you feel better about feeding Nextrition or trying a little longer with your pup. If you have any questions that weren't answered here, please visit our contact us page here or reach out to us at hello@nextritionpet.com and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

No dog owner likes to see their pup struggling with diarrhea. It’s unpleasant, concerning, and often leaves you wondering what caused it—especially if it seems tied to something your dog ate. When it becomes a pattern, it’s natural to start questioning their diet.

The truth is, diarrhea in dogs is fairly common and can be triggered by several things, including:

  • Food intolerance or allergies
  • Spoiled or contaminated food
  • Eating something they shouldn’t
  • Sudden changes in diet

Mild cases often pass on their own. But when diarrhea becomes persistent or severe, it’s time to call the vet—and take a closer look at what your dog is eating.

A Gentle, Bland Approach

Like people, dogs tend to do best with bland, easily digested foods when their stomachs are upset. That’s why most vets recommend a gentle, simplified diet during recovery.

Foods commonly used to support sensitive stomachs include:

  • Plain white rice
  • Boiled, skinless chicken
  • Sweet potatoes and cooked white potatoes
  • Plain canned pumpkin
  • Cooked oats or carrots

It makes sense that a food designed for sensitive stomachs would include similar ingredients—and be made using a process that doesn’t lead to bloating or digestive stress. That’s exactly the thinking behind Nextrition cold-pressed dog food.

Formulated to Be Easy on the Gut

Nextrition was developed specifically for dogs with sensitive stomachs in mind. Each recipe is carefully crafted to support digestion and reduce the risk of upset, without sacrificing nutrition or flavor.

We use ingredients like gently cooked meats, nutrient-dense vegetables, and easy-to-digest grains, all chosen for their role in supporting gut health. Then, instead of using high heat (which can damage nutrients and flavor), we cook at low temperatures before cold-pressing everything into soft, bite-sized pieces.

The result? A food that breaks down easily in the stomach, delivers more nutritional value per bite, and doesn’t swell like traditional kibble.

Why That Matters

For a dog with chronic or sensitive digestion, the last thing you want is a heavy food that’s hard to break down. Nextrition’s cold-pressed process avoids the bloating and digestive burden often caused by conventional kibble—making it a strong choice for dogs dealing with diarrhea or frequent stomach upset.

It’s also packed with naturally retained vitamins and minerals, which helps keep your dog’s energy up while their gut settles.

Talk to Your Vet, Then Try a Switch

If your dog is experiencing ongoing diarrhea or digestive discomfort, it’s always a good idea to check in with your vet. But once you’ve ruled out more serious causes, switching to a more easily digested food can make a world of difference.

We believe Nextrition is one of the best options out there for dogs with sensitive stomachs—and many vets agree. It’s nutritionally complete, gentle on digestion, and made with real ingredients your dog will love.

A happy gut is a healthy dog. And that starts with the right food.

Dog food delivery has come a long way. These days, convenience isn’t just for people—it’s for pups, too. With a Nextrition subscription, you can have high-quality, cold-pressed dog food delivered to your door on your schedule. But what if your dog struggles with excess gas or digestive issues? Is subscription still a good idea?

Absolutely—if you’re feeding the right food.

Digestive Support Starts With the Right Ingredients

At Nextrition, we’ve designed our recipes to be gentle on sensitive stomachs from the start. Our cold-pressed process keeps nutrients intact while avoiding the bloating and gas that often come from conventional kibble.

Unlike heavily processed foods, our formulas:

  • Use natural, gut-friendly ingredients.
  • Avoid fillers, artificial preservatives, and byproducts.
  • Retain more nutrition through low-temperature cooking.
  • Break down easily in the digestive tract—no swelling, no bloating.

We also carefully select ingredients that support a healthy microbiome. A balanced gut helps your dog digest food more efficiently—and when digestion works properly, gas isn’t usually a problem.

Why Kibble Can Make Gas Worse

Traditional kibble is cooked at high heat, which damages the nutritional integrity of ingredients. It’s then mixed with additives and preservatives to restore flavor and shelf life—things your dog doesn’t need and may not tolerate well.

It also tends to expand in the stomach, which can increase pressure and trigger gas or even vomiting. If your dog routinely deals with bloating or gas after meals, that swelling could be part of the issue.

Cold-pressed dog food behaves differently. It doesn’t swell and starts breaking down faster, which means less stress on the gut and fewer uncomfortable symptoms.

Delivered When You Need It

We know high-quality cold-pressed food isn’t always easy to find in stores. That’s why we’ve made it simple to get Nextrition delivered straight to your door—with or without a subscription.

Want to set it and forget it? Our dog food subscription takes the guesswork out of shopping. You choose the recipe, size, and delivery frequency. Need to change your schedule? Just log in and adjust it anytime.

You can:

  • Pause or skip deliveries
  • Add or remove bags
  • Mix in our gut-friendly Tummy Treats
  • It’s that flexible.

A Healthier Routine for You and Your Dog

If your dog is gassy, uncomfortable, or bloated after meals, it might be time to switch foods. Cold-pressed nutrition can be a game-changer—and with a Nextrition subscription, making that switch is easier than ever.

No more last-minute pet store runs. No more settling for something that doesn’t sit right. Just better digestion, delivered.
